Øya Festival London club night

The Øya Festival teams up with NME for a London club night in late February.

Late February sees The Øya Festival teaming up with NME for a special club night featuring acts I Was A King and The New Wine alongside British newcomers Goldhawks. NME DJs are set round off the night.

The fun takes place at Koko in London on Friday 26 February, leaving the Norweigan acts an opportunity to play for a large audience in London. Koko has a 1300 people capacity and Club NME has proved to be a very popular concept with tickets selling out fast.

Previously the Øya Festivalen has featured the Norwegian bands at similar Øya-hosted nights at CMJ in New York and SXSW in Texas to great success.

The New Wine

This young and vital Bergen quartet, play, according to themselves, groove-pop inspired by Michael Jackson and LCD Soundsystem. Their unique combination of pop, funk and rock has proved to be a winning formula; they played Øya last summer and have toured Europe as support for The Whitest Boy Alive.

I Was A King

I Was A King, were bestowed with much deserved attention for their self-titled second album released last year. The album featured contributions from the likes of Ladybug Transistor, Danielson, Serena-Maneesh and, most notably, Sufjan Stevens. The band has created its own variant of noisy, contemporary pop and cite bands such as Neutral Milk Hotel, Apples in Stereo and My Bloody Valentine as main inspirational sources.
