The Øya Festival with NYC showcase

The Øya Festival builds up momentum to Austin’s South By Southwest festival with a NYC showcase featuring Shining and Hanne Hukkelberg.

Warm up to the South by Southwest Festival and get a taste of one of Norway’s great summer festivals when the Øya Festivals teams up with Oh My Rockness to showcase the best of SXSW in New York.

The Øya Festival is one of the biggest happenings in Oslo in the summertime – especially for that part of the population that swears by worn out jeans and old sneakers. Now, this being February, you still have to wait a few months for that. But stop by the Knitting Factory in New York on March 10th, where The Øya Festival will be having a showcase at the Oh My Rockness Pre-SXSW Party (That means The South by Southwest Festival that is to be held in Austin, Texas on March 7th – 16th).

Amongst a list of great musicians that will perform at the party, you will find the Norwegian Hanne Hukkelberg, and the Oslo based band Shining. Have a look at what Oh My Rockness has to say about the artists:

"Shining blends post-rock with jazz and psych to create something that has drawn comparisons to The Mars Volta, John Coltrane, and Slayer. This strangely cinematic band full of modern musical composers explore all sorts of tuneful terrains when the play, and their melodies often sail far outside the scope of traditional "indie rock. Hanne Hukkelberg has been making a name for herself in Scandinavia and beyond for her prosaic indie-pop. Hukkelberg's seductive croon has often been compared to Feist, and the imaginative orchestration and electronic experimentation of her songs draw the inevitable comparisons to Bjork."

Also performing at the Pre-SXSW Party are the American bands Videohippos and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. You know you want this! And by the way, if you can’t make it – or if you just want more – Hukkelberg will also be performing at Union Hall in Brooklyn on March 11. Oh, and her new album “Rykestrasse 68” is also released in the US in March.
