Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra at Proms

Led by its renowned conductor André Previn, the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra heads for London to perform at the Proms.

André Previn makes a long awaited return to the Proms on 30 August with the Oslo orchestra of which he became Music Director last season, and with the violin concerto that he recently wrote especially for his wife, Anne-Sophie Mutter.

The Oslo Philharmonic’s Proms repertoire include Debussy’s “Prélude á L’aprés-midi d’un faune” – a languidly erotic reverie that was turned into a notorious succès de scandale when choreographed by Nijinsky for Diaghilev's Ballets Russes. The next work on the programme is Previn’s own “Violin Concerto” that was written especially for his wife Anne-Sophie Mutter, who is also the night’s soloist. The concert ends with Prokofiev's rousingly popular Fifth Symphony in B flat major.

The event lasts from 7:30pm to app 9:45pm on Monday 30 August at the Royal Albert Hall.

Conductor, composer, and pianist André Previn’s achievements have won him honours including the Cross of Merit frm both Austria and Germany, a Kennedy Centre Honor for Lifetime Achievements, several Grammy Awards, Musical America’s “Musician of the year”, and the Grand Prix du Disque for the recording of his own opera “A Streetcar Named Desire”. In 1996 Mr. Previn was awarded Knighthood (KBE) by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Highlights of his first two seasons as Music Director of the Oslo Philharmonic include tours of Spain and Germany and a European tour of the Previn Violin Concerto with Anne-Sophie Mutter.

Besides highlight concert in Oslo with soloists such as Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Janice Watson, Lynn Harrell and Denyce Graves, the 2004-5 season with the Oslo Philharmonic includes festival concerts at BBC Proms and the Lucerne festival, two concerts in Vienna Musikverein and a concert tour in the United States.
